Failure prediction of laminated composites

Abstract

Abstract: Failure composite laminates have been predicted by Hashin's Criterion. Non-homogeneous stresses within a structure may induce a complicated failure scenario whereby one ply at a point can initiate failure and affect other plies at the same point or the same ply at a neighboring point. Only in-plane loads are considered, neglecting the possibility of interlaminar failure. The failure analysis, proposed in this paper, was used, to simulate the nonlinear laminate behavior and progressive damage of selected laminates under to their ultimate strength. We implemented our approach within the Matlab environment.
